Phytochemical, Nutritional and Pharmacological Potentialities of Amaranthus spinosus Linn. : A review

Amaranthus spinosus has long been cultivated in tropical and subtropical areas of the world, especially South Asia. It is well accepted by people for its nutritional, pharmacological, phytochemical, therapeutic functions human body. Tender stems, leaves, shoots, grains sometimes whole part A. are eaten humans or fed to farm animals, which contain carbohydrates, proteins, fats, fibers, vitamins, minerals many other phytochemicals. This review aims represent nutritional pharmacological activities spinosus. To have a better understanding, we discussed status spinosus, available phytochemicals their functional properties. Further, demonstrated potentiality various disease condition discussing activities, includes antioxidant, antidiabetic, immuno-modulatory, hematological, gastrointestinal, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, antimicrobial, antimalarial, anti-ulcer, antipyretic, antigenic activity. The availability important along with properties make valuable pharmaceuticals nutraceuticals industry.
